        Producer Information

In 1960 Villa Matilde was built at the foot of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano, a few kilometres from Naples, with the aim of reviving the cult wines that were made in that same area at the time of the Roman Empire. To do this, they researched and found the ancient varieties that these wines were made with. As a result, they became one of the first wineries to bring the famous Falerno wine back to the market. The Villa Matilde winery lies at the foot of the Roccamonfina volcano, a few kilometres from Naples, and is known for being one of the wineries to have revived the famous “divine Falerno” cult wine. This was a famous wine made in ancient Rome but the main varieties used to make it became extinct with the devastating phylloxera disease. Now, the Avallone family works sustainably to offer traditional wines with a marked typicity of the area.
