An elegant dry gin produced in the Netherlands by Rutte, using a recipe that features fennel as one of its ingredients, among other classic botanicals like juniper, coriander, orange peels and angelica. Rutte & Son has a long history with juniper-based deliciousness, as they have been distilling jenever, gin and liqueurs since 1872. An excellent choice for cocktails.
Rutte 1872 Dry Gin Tasting Notes
Nose: Citrus forward at first, though soon the juniper starts to develop earthy spice.
Palate: Deliciously creamy, with sparks of peppery juniper and deeply herbaceous fennel.
Finish: Light black pepper warmth lasts.
Distillery Information
The Rutte family has been maturing Dutch gins in casks from the very beginning, when it wasn’t customary to do so. In earlier centuries, Dordrecht became a city of high importance for the wine trade thanks to its riverside location. That’s why Rutte traded in wine; it was sold in their own shop and used in its products.
