Distillery Information
Nemiroff is a sizeable Vodka producer based in Nemyriv, in western central Ukraine, 240km (150 miles) southwest of Kyiv, making a wide range of Vodka and infused and flavored Vodka labels. The company is a major producer in Ukraine and is the country’s largest exporter of Vodka drinks. The company dates its origins back to 1872 when Count Grigory Stroganov established the distillery in Nemyriv. The largest distillery in the Podolia region of southwestern Ukraine, it was expanded by his daughter Princess Maria Shcherbatova who took over the running of the distillery in 1885. The region is well-known for its fertile soils and waterways, making it ideal for growing grain and establishing a reliable water source – major components in Vodka production. The distillery was nationalised by the Soviets in 1920. Following the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the Nemiroff trademark was registered in 1997 with the resumption of private production with investment from Great Britain, Germany and the USA already under way. From the mid-1990s onwards, production and distribution continues to grow, expanded both domestically and internationally. By the early 2000s, annual sales surpass one million nine-liter (12-bottle) cases and in 2004, a second plant is opened for the production of lower-alcohol products, including the SPY brand of RTDs (Ready-To-Drink carbonated, flavored alcoholic beverages). Prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 20222, around 40 percent of all vodka exported from Ukraine was produced by Nemiroff. According to the company it is also in the top three suppliers of vodka to Duty Free shops around the world. Nemiroff also sponsors numerous events including the Eurovision song contest (in 2005) and, since 2018, has been the official sponsor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The distillery halted production in 2022 with some workers leaving the production line to fight against the Russians following the latter’s invasion of Ukraine.
