It is named after the Ryukyu Islands, located in the south of Japan, and is produced by the Okinawa Prefecture Sake & Shochu Makers Association. It is a light, clear spirit with a mild flavor and aroma, and is usually enjoyed neat or with a mix of hot or cold water. It is also sometimes used in cocktails or as a base for liqueurs.
