Efe Gold is made from Anatolian grapes and aniseeds. Raki is usually aged in stainless steal vats, and according to production standards in Turkey, a maximum 10 grams of sugar per liter can be added to Raki in the process. Efe Gold has no added sugar, and has been aged for 120 days in oak barrels to give it a smooth taste, as well as distintive color and aromas.
Distillery Information
The distillery had still made in Scotland by Northern Fabricators in Elgin and by all accounts produced a good tasting dram. The Turkish government passed legislation in the early 2000’s however that allowed to Tekel to be privatised and the new owners shut the distilling operation down in 2002. The still shave since been purchased by the Virginia Distillery Company who have them hard at work in the US. Ankara meanwhile has become unusually collectible.
