Detailed Description
Ducastaing’s named this XO Armagnac Bernard VII, which is a perfectly lovely name. If you dig a bit deeper, however, (the journalist in me never dies), you’ll see that ol’ Bernie* was Count of Armagnac in the 12th and 13th Century, so there’s perhaps a bit more meaning to the name of this Armagnac other than just Ducastaing thinking it was perfectly nice name (which it is). Ducastaing Cuvée Bernard VII XO is made entirely from Folle Blanche grapes, an obscure and rapidly declining grape variety that tends to produce light and acidic wines. *There’s no historical evidence he was ever called this. None whatsoever.
