Colosia Amontillado Sherry | 375ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Maritime notes, some sea air, but also plenty of round notes like (salted) caramel, runny honey and almonds. Subtle notes of flor. Hints of dried apricot and a soft layer of polished oak.
Palate: Surprisingly creamy, warm and nutty, with fairly low acidity and just a very soft tangy edge in the background.
Finish: A very light hint of olive brine in the end. Medium finish.
Distillery Information
Bodegas Gutiérrez Colosía bodega was built in 1838 at the mouth of the Guadalete River, very close to the Atlantic Ocean in El Puerto de Santa Maria. Towards the beginning of the 20th century it was acquired by Sr. José Gutiérrez Dosal, the late great grandfather of the current Gutiérrez Colosía family. The bodegas’ high cathedral-like buildings are home to three soleras: Maria Dolores, Loreto and Matilde, named after the three daughters of Jose Maria Gutierrez Dosal. These soleras are now tended by the current owner, Juan Carlos Gutierrez Colosia, who follows his father and grandfather, Sr. José Gutiérrez Dosal. The Puerto riverside, proves Gutiérrez Colosía with a unique microclimate offering the perfect level of humidity to grow flor and age their sherries, traditionally lighter in oxidative flavour than those from Jerez.
