In 1824, Dr. Johann Siegart, a German doctor serving as Surgeon-General of Simon Bolivar’s army in Venezuela, was working to find a medicine that would enhance the appetite and digestive well-being of his soldiers. Dr. Siegart eventually settled upon a mix of herbs and spices that he called “Amargo Aromatico” — today, this world-famous concoction is known simply as Angostura Bitters.
Nose: Aroma is very pleasant and delightful.
Palate: This is extremely rich and very balanced in flavour.
Finish: Perfect, long lasting finish.
Angostura was founded in 1824 by Dr. Siegert producing Angostura bitters in Angostura, Venezuela. After his death, his sons took over the business and moved it to Trinidad. At first, they were buying rum in bulk and blending their own style, rather than distilling their own.
