Detailed Description

Comprising a limited run of 4,200 bottles world-wide, the new Admiral Rodney Officers Release No1 Rum us the premier release as part of the Officer’s Release series. The exquisite rum was filled into ex-Bourbon oak casks in 2006 and left to mature for 13 years, tropically aged on St Lucia. It was then finished for nine months in ex-Port barrels. The expression pays tribute to admiral George Rodney, a British naval officer who distinguished himself in 1782 during the Battle of the Saintes.

Admiral Rodney Officer’s Release No.1 Rum Tasting Notes

Nose: On the nose you immediately get the Port Cask. Lots of sweet raisins, sultanas and rich dark plum.

Palate: On the initial sip you get a lot of soft vibrant fruits. Peach, raisin, sultana a touch of overripe juicy pear. The mid palate is drier with notes of tobacco and with more oak and bourbon esque notes.

Finish: There is a touch of liquorice there as well which leads you nicely into the finish.

Distillery Information

St Lucia Distillers was founded in 1972, and is based in the valley of Roseau on the island of St Lucia. In the 1950s, only two distilleries remained on the island, Dennery on the Barnard family plantation, and the Geest-owned facility at Roseau. These two distilleries combined to form St. Lucia Distillers Group at the location of Roseau in 1972, and it is now the island’s only remaining distillery. The Barnard family then bought out the Geest’s shares in 1992, and in 2005 they sold their shareholdings to Clico Barbados Holdings, though Laurie Barnard stayed on as Managing Director. In May 2007 the distillery suffered an arson attack, which destroyed the laboratory and blending building, and the brand was forced to work from a converted warehouse for years after.
