      Detailed Description

Oak flavors are at the fore on this full-bodied Pinot. Notes of vanilla, cinnamon and cedar hug the red berry fruit. On the palate, crisp acidity and muscular, drying tannins sit beside plump fruit. There’s vibrant fruit here, but it’s tucked behind a veil of oak and tannins. Give this another year or two in the bottle and it may knit together better.

      Producer Information

Palliser Estate is a wine producer in the Martinborough region, on the North Island of New Zealand. It is best known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and also works with several other grape varieties. The flagship Palliser Estate range includes still wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. The rosé is 100 percent Pinot Noir. There are also two single-vineyard releases, the Om Santi Vineyard Chardonnay and the Hua Nui Vineyard Pinot Noir. (The latter was known as Wharekauhau Vineyard Pinot Noir up to and including the 2018 vintage.)The Griffin is an ageworthy vintage sparkling wine made using the traditional method. It is a 50:50 combination of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The base wine is aged on lees for 12 months before blending and a further 22 months in the bottle for secondary fermentation and further lees aging. A rosé counterpart is also made, entirely from Pinot Noir, with less lees aging.
