Producer Information
“Le Dominicain” is a wine cooperative created in 1926. “Because our cellar is located in the former church of the Dominican convent, a historic monument from the 13th century and consecrated by King James II of Majorca in 1457. After the French Revolution, the building became property of the State, which used it as an artillery depot before putting it up for sale at auction. In 1926, the cooperative winegrowers of Collioure bought this imposing building and decided to make wine and raise their production in these walls steeped in history.The vineyard is located at the eastern end of the Pyrenees, where the mountains meet the Mediterranean… Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls and Cerbère are the 4 villages that make up this exceptional vineyard, with its rugged terrain and where the winegrowers exercise their passion. The local geography (steep slopes between sea and mountains, shale soil, terraced architecture) makes mechanization impossible. In the Dominicans, the average surface area of vineyard plots is 50 Ares.
