Detailed Description
From the Portsmouth Distillery comes this glorious rum, matured for three years in ex-bourbon casks, just a pebbles throw from the sea! Distilled and matured from scratch in Portsmouth, it’s impressive stuff for sipping, and ought to make a fab pairing to ginger ale and the like.
1812 3 Year Old Rum | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Foam banana sweets, dried fruit, creamy strawberry, pink grapefruit peel, and apple chutney bring all the fruitiness to the fore, with vanilla, coconut, and nutmeg in support.
Palate: Still fruity (green banana) and vibrant, with touches of cask influence in the shape of cacao powder, honey, some nuttiness, and more vanilla.
Finish: Long and delicately sweet.
Distillery Information
The Portsmouth Distillery Co. was established in Fort Cumberland, located at Eastney Point at the entrance to Langstone Harbour, by ex-Naval officers Vince Noyce and Giles Collighan, who have also run The Rum Club Ltd for the past few years, and Dich Oatley, who spent time working in the wine trade. It’s a distillery that celebrates the history of Portsmouth and its strong naval connections, hence why it is housed in one of the most impressive pieces of eighteenth-century military architecture in England.
