Detailed Description
The sample reviewed comes from Batch 001, aged for 5 months in a 53-gallon, hogshead barrel with a level 3 char. This single malt whiskey uses both peated malt and Maris Otter malt, which was originally created for brewing cask-conditioned ales. This whiskey was mashed, fermented, distilled, matured and bottled on site at the distillery in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
11 Wells Prototype Series Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Wet dog is the primary aroma on the bouquet, with notes of chocolate, smoke, and grain detectable.
Palate: On the palate, the flavor profile is out of balance with a cloying sweetness playing against an unpleasantly acrid smokiness.
Finish: There is an unpleasant note reminiscent of burnt plastic, but, mercifully, the finish is quick and short.
