Detailed Description
10th Street’s line currently includes two whiskies, both of which are single malt varieties and are “hand crafted” and distilled in custom cooper pot stills. While the STR Single Malt is non-peated, the Peated Single Malt straddles American and Scottish tradition as it is created with specially peated malt imported from Scotland that the distillers believe is synergistic with San Jose’s water and means the water doesn’t need to be treated. The Peated Single Malt Whisky also earned the “Best in Class” gold medal at the 2018 Whiskies of the World competition, and Double Gold at the New York World Spirits Competition this year.
10th Street Peated Single Malt American Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose has notes of citrus, with a peat smoke essence.
Palate: The palate is creamy, full of flavors of vanilla and dark red apple peels, turning into rounded peat flavors.
Finish: A delicate balance of fruity and smoky notes.
Distillery Information
In 2017, Saksena and his business partner Vishal Gauri — both engineers — opened 10th Street Distillery in a non-descript industrial park a few miles south of downtown San Jose. It’s there that their small operation produces about a barrel of single malt whiskey every day, a true Silicon Valley spirit that’s showing up on the shelves of craft cocktail bars and restaurants and winning awards in competitions.
