Founded in Beaune in 1720, Maison Champy is the oldest wine company in Burgundy. It is widely recognized for the quality of its Grands Crus from the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, and its Corton-Charlemagne in particular. This release is the maison’s 1949 La Dominode, a premier cru of the Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation 1949 was a magnificent vintage for red Burgundy and the best wines are still good now after more than 70 years.

Maison Champy runs a large part of its 21 ha of vines on the Côte de Beaune – especially in Pernand-Vergelesses – organically in order to preserve and highlight the true character of this exceptional terroir. Precision wine growing is Maison Champy’s objective. The importance of the environment means that every single treatment follows the practices of sustainable and organic farming.The winery, which has been declared a historic monument by UNESCO, was designed by the famed architect, Gustave Eiffel and sits above an ancient 15th-century Jacobin monk cellar, where the wines are aged in the heart of Beaune.
