Navy Strength Gin from the Winchester Distillery, created using an interesting combination of sea buckthron and gunpowder tea alongside the classic juniper. Gunpowder will still ignite if spilled over gunpowder if it’s 57% (or so the story goes), which is why spirits were often that strength when taken on Naval ships, and this is where the Navy Strength terminology comes from. Using gunpowder tea is a neat connection these Hampshire-based distillers have made. Kudos.
Nose: Nose is complex yet not overwhelming.
Palate: A splendid taste with a warm feel to it. Not to smoky but silky smooth.
Finish: Rich and smooth.
