A marvellous VSOP brandy from South Africa’s Oude Molen, matured for at least five years before bottling. Oude Molen has been in the brandy business since 1910, originally in Stellenbosch, but these days the distillery is situation in Elgin (the one in South Africa, obviously, not the one in Scotland). Deliciously fruit-forward, with oak spices building on the palate, and a bittersweet finish of rich dark chocolate.
Nose: Apples, apricots, red grapes, and oranges.
Palate: Cassia, anise, dark chocolate mousse, a hint of sandalwood.
Finish: Finish is very long and very satisfying.
