Tres Papalote is made from 100% Wild cupreata. a.k.a. papalote grown in Guerrero, Mexico. This expression is bottled unaged at 46% (there are 2 others on the market at higher proofs). The “Koo-Koo Man” on the bottle is an illustrated rendering of a glass sculpture from the art collection of its brand ambassador, actor/comedian Cheech Marin.

Tres Papalote Wild Cupreata Mezcal was previously available in three different expressions, which differed in alcohol content: 40% ABV, 46% ABV, and 50% ABV. Going forward the brand will be releasing this mezcal at 46% ABV. The choice of agave sets the brand apart as most other mezcals available at this price point use farm-grown agave Espadin (Tres Papalote also has an agave Espadin mezcal). The Cupreata provides a much different experience. Tres Papalote is sweet and savory with hints of medium smoke and a bit of spice. It’s great in cocktails and also for sipping neat.
