Detailed Description
A lighter take on a spiced rum, DECEM made this blend from light and white Caribbean rums from Martinique and the Dominican Republic, to which spices and flavours like cassia bark, nutmeg, vanilla seeds, ginger root, pineapple, and orange rind were added. This mix was allowed to steep for two days before being cut back to 10% ABV, as everything DECEM does is designed to be lower on the alcohol side, without actually being part of the low-and-no alcohol category.
DECEM Spiced Blend Light Spirit | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: On the nose, the drink offers a complex aroma of juniper berries, followed by notes of citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit. There is also a subtle hint of floral notes, such as lavender and chamomile, which add to the depth and complexity of the aroma.
Palate: The palate is light and refreshing, with flavors of juniper berries and citrus fruits. There are also notes of coriander and cardamom, which add a slightly spicy character to the drink. The bitterness is well balanced with a touch of sweetness, making it a perfect alternative for those who enjoy the taste of gin but prefer a lower alcohol content.
Finish: The finish is long and dry, with lingering notes of juniper berries and citrus fruits. The aftertaste is refreshing and leaves a pleasant bitterness in the mouth.
Distillery Information
DECEM creates lighter interpretations of classic spirits which are bottled at 10% ABV, not high enough to be classed as a spirit, but not low enough to be low-to-no alcohol options either. The brand describes them as ‘light spirits’, and has so far created a London dry gin alternative, a spiced Caribbean rum substitute, and an aperitif-style spirit, with Masterchef finalist Billy Wright lending his expertise to the recipes.
